Developmental Disabilities Area Board 10 is pleased to provide this updated version of our Directory of Support Groups and Self-Advocacy Groups for Consumers and Families in the Developmental Services System of Los Angeles County.

As you may know, Area Board 10 is a state agency that provides advocacy services for people with developmental disabilities throughout Los Angeles County. Part of our mandate includes providing information about resources available in the community to assist individuals and families. We hope this Directory helps significantly to fulfill that need.

The idea to compile a directory that encompasses the vast network of consumer and parent support groups in Los Angeles County arose in response to questions such as: Where can a Japanese-speaking family who lives in the South Bay find support in their native language if none exists in their area? Where can a family living in the Valley seek information and support about Spina Bifida from other families facing the same challenges? Where is the closest consumer self-advocacy group? What is available for foster parents? Grandparents? Fathers? What about information on full inclusion or living options?

The information provided for each group varies based on what was available. For almost all groups we have listed at least a phone number. Wherever possible, addresses, contact persons, email addresses, websites and other descriptive information are provided. We will be updating our website periodically as changes in contact information or new groups become known to us. Please note this directory is by no means exhaustive. Although we have tried to be as complete as possible, it is impossible to know about every relevant group in Los Angeles.

Every effort has been made to provide the most up-to-date, accurate information possible. However, errors will undoubtedly occur. Prior to attending any meetings, be sure to call first to confirm group and meeting information, especially as many groups meet in locations different from their mailing addresses.

Please note that some groups limit participation to only those individuals/families served by a given agency or program. We have tried to note those if they provided this information. There may be others with similar limitations we did not know about. In any case, please be respectful of these restrictions and look for another group, if necessary. We have limited most of our listings to groups in Los Angeles County only. A few exceptions are included if they offer a service not available locally. To the best of our knowledge, participation in the groups listed is free of charge, unless otherwise indicated.
